On the financial press agenda this week: macroeconomics · Bitcoin · monetary policy · geopolitical tensions · regulation.
This increase and the prospect attract new buyers; the new buyers assure a further increase. Yet more are attracted; yet more buy; the increase continues. The speculation building on itself provides its own momentum.

◆ Verdict · Friday 2 October session
Buying into weakness.
While Bitcoin marks time (−0.97%), institutions are buying (+$32mn). And while altcoins lose ground (−1.56% to −1.18%), investors are pulling out.
Friday's session closed with Bitcoin recording a decline of just under one per cent to $84,518.01, yet exchange-traded funds recorded net inflows of $32mn into Bitcoin on that same session, with net flows across all crypto ETFs reaching $12mn. The configuration is now a familiar one in this survey: institutional participants have, on three separate occasions in recent weeks, directed capital towards an asset whose price moved against them. Friday's session adds a fourth instance, though the sums involved are modest by comparison with the $134mn and $347mn recorded earlier in the sequence.
The momentum readings at Friday's close remain orderly. Bitcoin's RSI stood at 63.0, some 3.3 per cent from overbought ground. Ether closed at $2,668.59 with a reading of 58.8. TRX, at $0.3347, sits within 0.9 per cent of its twice-tested resistance at $0.3376 — a proximity that has persisted across several sessions without resolution.
The sentiment barometer, at 53 out of 100, remains at neutral ground. The market neither presses forward nor retreats.
