On the financial press agenda this week: macroeconomics · Bitcoin · monetary policy · geopolitical tensions · regulation.
It is possible that the present generation is more on its guard against those cruder ways in which currencies were destroyed … The same can be done nowadays, however, by subtler procedures that the public is less likely to notice.
— Friedrich Hayek, Austrian-British economist and philosopher (1899-1992)

◆ Verdict · Wednesday 7 October session
Selling pressure.
Bitcoin falls 1.68% and suffers $487mn of outflows: selling pressure is building. Altcoins follow (−3.35% to −1.79%).
Wednesday's session brought a sharper reckoning than recent weeks have produced. Bitcoin closed at $83,321.81, a retreat that left its RSI at 52.9 — within 0.9 per cent of the mid-range threshold of 50. That proximity alone might pass without remark; what gives it consequence is the accompanying flow data. The Wednesday session recorded net outflows from Bitcoin exchange-traded funds of $487mn, with net flows across all crypto ETFs reaching minus $653mn — the heaviest withdrawal in this survey by a considerable margin. The price and the flows, on this occasion, moved in the same direction.
The contrast with the pattern that has characterised October is plain. Across five sessions surveyed this month, institutional capital and price direction had repeatedly diverged: outflows met a price that held, or inflows accompanied modest advances. Wednesday broke that sequence.
The broader survey reflects the shift in tone. Ether closed at $2,574.14 with momentum at 45.3, now 1.7 per cent from the mid-range threshold. XRP, at $1.42, carries an RSI of 45.5. Both have retreated towards the lower half of the momentum range without approaching oversold ground. Solana closed at $116.30 with an RSI of 54.1; its three-times-tested support at $81.39 remains 30.0 per cent below that close. TRX, at $0.3354, stands 0.6 per cent below a twice-tested resistance at $0.3376 — a proximity that has persisted unresolved across a fortnight of sessions.
The sentiment barometer, at 45 out of 100, has slipped to its lowest reading in this survey.
