Reading
On the financial press agenda this week: macroeconomics · Bitcoin · geopolitical tensions · Ethereum · altcoins.
When it comes to money, everyone is of the same religion.
— Voltaire, French philosopher and writer (1694-1778)
◆ Verdict · Friday 9 October session
Bullish conviction.
Bitcoin draws $21mn as its price rises 0.87%: conviction holds. Among altcoins, flows remain cautious (+1.16% to +2.16%).
◆ Technical view · 12 October
Sunday's close left Bitcoin at $83,773.12, its momentum reading of 54.6 sitting 7.5 per cent below overbought ground and 1.3 per cent above the mid-range threshold of 50. After a fortnight in which that threshold was approached from above and below in alternating sessions, the distance between current momentum and the floor of the neutral range has widened modestly. The retreat from early October's $86,530.00 close now amounts to roughly 3.2 per cent measured between those two Sunday sessions.
Ethereum sits in a more constrained position. At Sunday's close of $2,536.94, its three-times-tested resistance at $2,553.32 lay a mere 0.6 per cent above — the tightest proximity to a major level in this reading. That resistance has been touched on three separate occasions over the surveyed period, and Sunday's close represents the nearest approach yet without resolution.
Elsewhere, TRX closed at $0.3302, its momentum reading of 37.0 leaving it 1.3 per cent from oversold ground — the closest reading in this survey to that threshold, and a notable deterioration from the compressions near resistance that characterised its recent sessions.
The sentiment barometer, at 50 out of 100, has recovered fractionally from its recent lows, though it offers little by way of direction.

Reader's note
Technical data computed from Binance USDT pairs. Ranks come from the CoinMarketCap ranking. Some major cryptocurrencies not listed on Binance may be missing from this ranking.
RSI 14 Momentum indicator computed over 14 periods using Wilder's method. Above 70, the asset is considered overbought; below 30, oversold.
P Abbreviation used in column headers for “Price” (the current price). A standard financial convention (P/E ratio, P/B ratio, etc.).
$0.0ₙ XYZ Compact notation for sub-cent values (CoinMarketCap / DexScreener style). The subscript ₙ counts the consecutive zeros after the decimal point, followed by the first four significant digits. Example: $0.0₅5780 = $0.000005780 (five zeros, then 5780).
Support A price level where buyers have historically regained control. A support tested several times is considered well established.
Resistance A level where sellers have historically prevailed. A break through it often marks a change of trend worth watching.
MA50/200 Price position relative to its 50-day (short-term) and 200-day (long-term) moving averages. ▲▲ price above both: uptrend confirmed. ▼▲ below the MA50 but above the MA200: correction within an uptrend. ▲▼ above the MA50 but below the MA200: rebound within a downtrend. ▼▼ below both: downtrend confirmed. ▲- or ▼-: MA200 unavailable (history too short), only the MA50 position is shown.
P vs MA20 Percentage gap between the current price (P for Price) and its 20-day moving average (about one month). The MA20 also serves as the middle line of the Bollinger Bands (default settings), which ties this indicator to the reading of volatility. A short-term momentum gauge that complements the RSI and the MA50/200 regime. ▲ +X%: price above its MA20, positive momentum. ▼ −X%: price below its MA20, negative momentum.
Timeframe 1D Each candle represents one trading day. A scale suited to medium-term trend analysis.
